ultimate coffee gift guide to get for the holiday season

Coffee. A simple but complex industry and topic. When I first started getting into coffee and brewing it at home, I was overwhelmed of where I should start. But, with the holiday season coming up, and in efforts to help out and give back, I have decided to share with you a list of coffee gifts or items that would make a coffee lover smile and be excited to brew!

This guide presents to you four different items you can buy for your coffee-lover friend or family member. These items are recommendations and cover various aspects of the brewing process like the brewer, a gooseneck kettle, coffee grinder, and the type of coffee you should buy!

Disclaimer: I did not discuss about scales in this article as any scales that can provide weight in grams are useful and are easily bought from various stores! Additionally, timer-integrated scales can be mitigated by using the timer on an electronic device.

Origami Dripper and Stand

The Origami Dripper is a universal piece of coffee gear that you can use to brew coffee at home. It allows the brewer to use either a cone shaped filter  or flat-bottom filter and allows the brewer  to use either the Hario V60 filter and a Kallita Wave filter into to make coffee. 

Additionally the ridges associated with dripper allows for a unique flow rate. When water is used to brew coffee, it takes the path of least resistance, but with the ridges associated with this brewer, it allows for unique contact with the coffee grounds. When extracting  and making your coffee, as much as water is very important - the vessel in which the water is poured out is really important. Thus, a gooseneck kettle is important in leveling up and helping you with your journey. 

I recommend this as a great tool as a way to help improve your brewing technique and method.

And yes, this kettle does not have temperature control, but it serves the purpose of ensuring that grounds are evenly saturated and churned for an amazing extraction and a flavorful brew!

Comandante C40 

Extraction is a widely discussed and researched topic within the coffee community. It focuses on ensuring that the flavors that extracted within the brew are adequately represented within the cup of coffee that is brewed. 

That is why I am recommending the Comandante C40 Manual Burr Grinder!

This grinder is on the pricier side of the gift list coming to close to CAD $400. But, the design and quality of the grinder allows for the brewer to grind to sizes small enough for espresso and all the way up to French Press and Cold Brew. Coffee Beans

The last gift that will help you complete your set of gear, is coffee beans! Buy you coffee beans from a local coffee shop (meaning not Starbucks!!) and make sure you look out for things like:

• Tasting Notes
• Growing Region and Altitude
• Preparation Process (i.e., washed/natural process)

Buying beans from a local coffee shop, not only means supporting local individuals, baristas, and community members, but ensures that the quality of beans that are provided are of highest quality!
